Who Issues the Policy and How to Check It

The product page says the insurer is Insurance Australia Limited, trading as NRMA Insurance, and it names National Roads and Motorists' Association Limited as a separate company. The brand and the legal entity are not the same thing, so the entity on your policy documents is the one that matters. We did not see an Australian financial services licence number on the page, so we do not state one. Check your product disclosure statement.

You can test the insurer name on the APRA register of general insurers, which showed an update date of 23 September 2026 when we read it. business.gov.au suggests using the register to find an authorised insurer. Match the register name to the name on your quote.

What the Product Page Says

The page lists injury to others, legal defence costs and compensation, injury or damage caused by your products, damage to someone else's property, other people's property in your control and negligence of your staff. It lists what is not included: injury to your own staff, which falls under workers compensation, paid advice, which falls under professional indemnity, product recalls and faulty work.

It also offers limits of $5 million, $10 million, $15 million or $20 million, monthly payments at no extra cost and a phone line, and it points to the product disclosure statement and the target market determination for full terms. The page is undated, and we do not repeat its time limited promotion.

The so what: monthly payment is convenient, but Business Queensland notes that policies can lapse where premiums are paid monthly, which is why customers sometimes ask for a fresh certificate. If you pay monthly, ask how a missed payment is handled and how you would be told.

Questions to Ask About the Wording

Use these on this policy or any other:

  1. Does the limit meet each contract, licence or lease I hold?
  2. Are defence costs inside the limit or in addition to it?
  3. Does an exclusion touch the work I do, such as faulty work or recalls?
  4. Is the business entity on the policy the one named on my contracts?

A certificate of currency confirms the entity covered, the type of cover and that the policy is valid on a given date. Our certificate guide explains what to expect.

Complaints and Disputes

The NRMA complaints page says it aims to resolve a complaint within 30 days, and otherwise to seek an external review. The steps it describes are to contact NRMA, then its Customer Relations team, then AFCA. The page gives no AFCA deadline. AFCA's role for public liability is limited, because AFCA says it cannot consider public liability for small business insurance products. Our national guide explains the limit.

Comparing Alternatives

One insurer's page tells you little until you set it beside others. Our compare guide gives a checklist, and our providers guide explains the routes. For another brand page in the same format, see our Allianz guide.

Where to Go Next on Cairn Cover

The one thing to remember: verify the insurer, then read the wording. Cairn Cover is a free guide and does not sell insurance or quote prices. Start with the national guide, then read the cost guide, the quotes guide and the Queensland guide.
