Editorial policy

How Cairn Cover decides what to publish, who writes it and how we keep it independent and accurate.

One team, no personal bylines

Every guide is published by the Cairn Cover Team. We do not use pen names, invented personas or personal bylines. If a guide has had specialist review, it says so on the page.

What readers can expect

  • Plain English. We explain terms the first time we use them and avoid jargon where a simple word works.
  • One country per guide. Each guide is written for a single country, and for a state, province or region where the rules differ.
  • Sources for claims. Any rule, figure, limit or definition is tied to a named source, such as a regulator, an official statistics body, a government website or an insurer's own policy document.
  • No invented numbers. We do not publish prices, premiums or statistics unless we can cite where they come from and when they were published.
  • Dates on every guide. Each guide shows when it was published and when it was last reviewed.

Independence

  • We do not sell insurance and we are not owned by an insurer or broker.
  • Insurers cannot pay to change what we write, how we describe their products or where a guide ranks in our listings.
  • When we describe a specific provider, we draw on its own published documents and on regulator information, and we say what a policy document says rather than guessing.
  • If we ever earn money from links on this site, we will say so on the page where it happens and update this policy first.

What we will not do

  • Give personal recommendations or tell you which policy to buy.
  • Publish guides on topics we cannot source well.
  • Copy another publisher's work.
