Youi Public Liability Insurance in Australia: what to know about the cover on offer, how to compare it with alternatives and what to check first.

Youi public liability insurance is a cover that Youi's own page says comes inside its small business policies in Australia, and this guide sets out what that page and the regulator's register say. We do not rate or recommend Youi, and the policy wording is what binds you.

Who Issues the Policy and How to Check It

The product page says the policy is issued by Youi Pty Ltd and gives its ABN and Australian financial services licence number. You can test the name yourself. The APRA register of general insurers, which showed an update date of 23 September 2026 when we read it, lists Youi Pty Ltd as authorised for new or renewal business.

The so what: match the register name to the name on your quote and certificate. business.gov.au suggests checking an insurer there before you buy.

What the Product Page Says

The page describes cover for compensation you are legally required to pay to a third party. It names physical, psychological and reputational injury, property damage and advertising liability. It says legal and defence costs can be covered. These are marketing statements, not the contract, and the page is undated with a copyright line running to 2026.

The page also says public and products liability is automatically included in its Small Business Insurance policies. Ask Youi where the liability section sits in the wording. Our guide to what public liability covers explains why that section decides so much.

What the Page Lists as Separate Covers

The page names items that public liability does not cover and points to optional covers for them: business items, business property damage such as contents and stock in trade, money and glass.

It also says a choice of limits is available, but states no amounts, so we make no statement about Youi's limits. Other insurers' pages do state tiers, and our 10 million guide sets them side by side. Ask for the limit in writing.

Complaints and Disputes

The Youi complaints page lets you complain by phone or an online form. It names a Customer Relations Team, then an Internal Dispute Resolution Service, and says you can go to the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA) if you are unsatisfied or the matter is not resolved within 30 calendar days. The page's own summary also says Youi will respond within 15 working days, so ask which timeframe applies to you.

AFCA's role is narrower for this type of product. Our national guide explains that AFCA says it cannot consider public liability for small business insurance products, so ask early whether it can help.

What to Check in the Wording

Use these questions on this policy or any other:

  1. Where does the public and products liability section sit inside the policy?
  2. Does the limit meet each contract, licence or lease I hold?
  3. Are defence costs inside the limit or in addition to it?
  4. Does an exclusion touch the work I do?

A certificate of currency confirms the entity covered, the type of cover and that the policy is valid on a given date. Our certificate guide explains what to expect.
